Before heading out for a weekend tour of Lake Titicaca we had some interesting times in the clinic before we left. Lauren and Tiffany spent time in the OB emergency room learning how to examine and assess pregnant women who were close to going into labor. Needless to say, they had their hands full.
Andrew was fortunate (depending on how you see things) to witness his first episiotomy in labor and delivery. It might have also been his last time in labor and delivery.
Kim simply dominated.
After finishing up at the clinic we then threw our stuff together and headed for the bus terminal. We took a bus through the night to La Paz, and then eventually ended up at Lake Titicaca. After getting there we spent time taking a boat tour of the lake and hiked Sun Island. After the boat tour we had dinner together and then planned a super awesome 4th of July extravaganza celebration. This included fireworks on the beach and the singing of American songs through the streets of Copacabana.
Things we learned from this weekend:
-Make sure when everyone is eating fish, yours isn't the only one that tastes "very funny" (this leads to a great night)
-Corn starch soup is the best trick to cure the "funny tasting fish" illness
-It costs money to take pictures of llamas.... the children simply demand it
-It costs money to use the bathroom
-It costs money to get toilet paper to use the bathroom
-It costs money to even show up at the bus terminal even if you have a ticket
-It costs money to get prayed for ......... (you get the picture)
-You should avoid getting on the wrong bus at 3 in the morning at random bathroom stops. This can lead to severly swollen ankles...and extremely swollen ankles are not good for hiking sun island.
-The fifth set of major tennis championships can't end in a tiebreaker
-You should probably carry your passport with you on trips even when your travel agent says you don't need to. This can lead to you hiding under seats in the back of the bus while crossing a lake on a ferry boat, illegally.
Thank God we're not in a Bolivian jail,

In their own way, each section of the clinic was busy. Check-in was chaotic
but well organized, despite the never-ending line that always seemed to go
